Provenance
Lot Note:The triptych features distinct elements representing facets of Rauschenberg's life and work. In X-Ray, a nearly life-sized X-ray of the artist overlays Rothenberg's enlarged horoscope. Written Record of Major Events presents an autobiographical text arranged in an oval, photographed through a distortion lens, with a childhood photo of Rauschenberg and his family in Texas at its center. Dance captures a dynamic moment of the artist skating with a parachute-like object on his back during a performance, alongside a view of New York from his studio.
